Road Ahead 1 - 2007
12 x 17 inches (30.48 x 43 cm)
Susan Raney - Susan Raney’s work is a natural progression from her many years as a set decorator and designer for film, where she was able to study the subtle effects of light color and composition to create a mood and tell a story. The three-inch tall characters that she photographs are the starting point of her compositions. “While I work out blocks of light and color, I let the figures, their postures and expressions guide me to the finished photograph.” - Susan Raney
On Earth As It Is (after Hollingshead)- 2006
oil on canvas
46 x 74 inches (116.84 x 187.96 cm)
Amy Marx - Images of violent storms and tornadoes are rendered in oil on torn, thick handmade paper, both in large scale and in miniature. The paintings are an attempt to evoke the creative/destructive dynamic and to render visible the animating forces of nature.
My Hollow Space 07-1 - 2007
11 x 10 x 3 inches (27.94 x 25.4 x 7.62 cm)
Akiko Mashima - These abstract wall-sculptures made out of construction wood express the soft quality of the material and the expanse of the space surrounding each work. Each piece unveils shapes and hollow spaces according to the position of the viewer thus allowing the experience of the work to shift and a myriad of differing visual results to occur.
